A registration evening
will be held at the club on February 22nd 7pm for
parents/guardians and participants. Spaces will be limited to
approximately 20 individuals between the ages of 8-16 years whereby a
waiting list will be kept. This allows us to provide the best opportunity
for those participating and ensures they have access to a dinghy.
During the registration
process the parent/guardian will be required to complete some RYA/club
paperwork consenting to the cadets participation, physical capabilities to
sail and contact details. After the initial registration the club will
with permission create a contacts list of the parents/guardians in
readiness for changes.
Having discussed the
restarting of cadet sailing for the 2012 season we are intending to
promote beginners and intermediate participation on Wednesday evening
sessions commencing at 18:00 and ending 20:00, with the more experienced
cadet sailors working towards assistant instructors and thus proving
support during the sessions. Also, the more experienced cadet sailors will
be encouraged to participate in Thursday evening dinghy racing sessions by
signing up for crewing positions.
We are also promoting
active parent/guardian participation during the evening sailing sessions
with an emphasis of the parent/guardian helping prepare the cadets and
dinghies for launch/recovery and stowing away of the dinghies/club
equipment after the water based session. This will hopefully allow the
cadets more time sailing. A roster for the parents/guardians will be made
available a week or two in advance.
A little about myself: I
am Terry Barrett, in recent years I have worked as an outdoors instructor
delivering sailing, rafting and hill walking sessions. Previously I worked
in IT. My personal sailing experience is mostly dinghy cruising up and
down the South Cornish coast. I am keen to see the cadet sailing restart
and hope that this summers weather is kind enough to us for the majority
of the Wednesday evening sessions. I am hoping to plan a bad weather
schedule.
Additionally, there
maybe the possibility of the cadets achieving National Youth Sailing
awards whereby during inclement weather theory sessions will promote the
achievement thereof.
Thank you and we look
forward to seeing you on the 22nd February at 19:00.
Sincerely
Terry Barrett
