Current Vacancies at the Club!

As we hopefully emerge from the Covid crisis we need to focus our attention on making sure that TMSC looks to the future and remains the well run, financially secure and above all lively and active club it is. The club runs on the efforts of both our paid staff and our volunteers who do so much (often unsung) work behind the scenes and as the years go by, our volunteers have to change because of their commitments to family or jobs, health or need for a change. We are now looking for volunteers for the following roles. None of them are particularly onerous but they are important and offer you the chance to become involved in the interesting life of managing probably the best sailing club this side of the Tamar, if not in the world! Please do consider whether you, or someone you know, could give a little time and skill to helping us to grow your club and make it a continued success in the years to come. You are not committed for life, a few years would help right now!
Hon Treasurer position
This is not a deeply financial job as our day to day accounts are managed by an accountant and our company accounts are covered by our Auditors and Accountants with our company secretary. Most of our bills are paid by direct debit and cash control is undertaken by our steward and bar team. The job of the treasurer is to provide oversight, make sure the accountant produces reports for our monthly meetings. You will attend the meetings and present the reports and take back members questions where necessary for the accountant or staff to answer. You will also look at our admin and accounting systems and practice and recommend any improvements. It will be helpful if you have had a similar job in the past or a familiarity with simple accounting practices so that you can take over the reins promptly. This role needs filling quickly to help us spread the workload but we are not in financial straits!! If you are interested or have any suggestions please email our company Secretary Bob Holder to arrange a chat. firstname.lastname@example.org
This post works with the Commodore and Committee to prepare and circulate agendas and to attend meetings of the Bar and Finance committee and Management Committee (normally the second Wednesday of each month for both meetings) and take minutes to record the topics of discussion and the decisions reached. You will also keep the monthly action log so that we keep track of work being undertaken by committee members. Shorthand skills, whilst helpful, are not essential but you should be able to clearly summarise the essential points of the meeting and what has been agreed. Minutes are normally circulated to the committee a few days after the meetings and posted on the club noticeboard and website. This job is essential for the smooth running of club democracy and needs someone asap.
If this takes your fancy, then please email me to arrange a chat. email@example.com
This role plays an important role in arranging a program of social events throughout the year. Clearly It has been a quiet year or so because of covid but we would like to see a new Social sec from the November AGM to take over from the current sec who is retiring from the role as she has plenty of other commitments with supporting dinghy racing. Social activity is the lifeblood of the club, and it need not be a lonely role for you to do on your own - plenty of members usually of want to join in the fun of planning and preparing!
Again, if you would like to talk to me about this contact me via my email firstname.lastname@example.org
These are paid roles and needed to fill some of the slots which have become available over the pandemic and where staff are moving away from Torpoint. Experience of bar work is essential as is an ability and willingness to take part in a rota which will cover lunchtimes, evenings, weekend (including afternoons) and bank holidays. We may also double up staffing for social events and other popular occurrences such as penalty shoot outs
If you (or anyone you may know they don't have to be members but most of them join up) are interested please contact our Club Steward, Neville Griffiths via email in the first instance.
Thank you for your continued support for your club, remember we need members go make this happen and we look forward to hearing from you!
And finally, we seem to be missing email addresses for quite a few members. I am also sending this by email according to our current list. Please could I ask for your help by checking your email inbox and if you haven't received this then we may have no address or the wrong one. Please could you send your current correct address to me and I will ensure it is corrected on the system, thanks.
Kind regards and keep well.
