Dinghy Sailing at TMSC

1007257 orig

We are a friendly group of sailors who enjoy racing in the extensive waters of the Hamoaze. We can sail at any state of the tide.

With an active cadet section, training courses on offer for those starting or improving their sailing and a selection of club boats that can be hired on a race by race basis by those who do not own their own boats, Torpoint Mosquito is suitable for all sailors from beginners to the more experienced.

For those keen on racing we have an active Solo fleet with it's own separate start and a mixed handicap fleet which includes Lasers, Laser 2000s, RS Vareos. RS Aeros. Wanderers and Phantoms but we welcome any PY class dinghy.

In the summer we race twice a week on Monday & Thursday evenings with a start time of 7pm. In the Autumn/Winter/Spring, we race on Sunday mornings starting at 11 am. Unlike other clubs in the area we sail through the winter with just a short break in December/January apart from famous Brass Monkey race on 1 January each year. Other highlights of our programme include an annual regatta and two annual long distance pursuit races the challenging 13-mile Three Rivers which takes in the rivers Tamar, Lynher and Tavy and the Nearly St Germans race. Our season rounds off with our annual prizegiving in November and a Christmas lunch in December.

We also have a group of sailors who enjoy practicing or simply cruising at other times, we have a whatsapp group for members to help coordinate this.

Dinghy racing and Cadet activities are supported by a fleet of three RIB Safety Boats which are helmed by members with a RYA PB2 qualification or higher. We welcome additional volunteers with or without qualifications who wish to support the Safety Boat team, please contact us if you are interested in helping out.
